Yum. Another wonderful record that I can't get off my turntable for too long, or out of my head. It's a single this time, called "Wonderful Life" by Black. Import on Ugly Man Records (U.K.). Every time I play it, I feel squishy and swoony inside because this thing just DRIPS romance. That's romance as in, say, late- period Roxy Music, not the ersatz luv songs of Lionel Richie. Let y'self go. One seldom encounters such beauty. "No need to run and hide/It's a wonderful, wonderful life." And it doesn't hurt that "It's a Wonderful Life" is my favorite movie ever, I suppose. But that's off the subject. I also picked up the funkbusiness-as-usual new 12" from ACR (nee A Certain Ratio), and the new Cocteau Twins...another dreamy pleasure that shouldn't disappoint anybody. Worth playing and playing. New The The, too, but I haven't listened enough to pass judgment. Too many records, too little money, too little time. Ah well. Incurably romantic, sue
