Does anyone know the complete history behind "Excellent Birds"? I have so far seen it on Laurie Anderson's "Mr. Heartbreak" album, and on the tape version of Gabriel's "So" - in a remixed form. Now, I've just seen a letter here that claims it was on the soundtrack for "Against All Odds" (is that the same one that gave us that shitty Phil Collins song?) So what's the deal? And which version appeared on the AAO soundtrack? "Excellent Birds" was not in *Against All Odds*. That was "Walk
Through the Fire", which by the way is one of my favorite Gabriel
tunes. I believe that PG and LA did "Excellent Birds" for some TV
show. They then each produced their own somewhat different versions
for their own records. The video (which I saw ages before SO) has
PG's version.

The name of the show was something like "Good Morning, Mr. Orwell". (I never saw it, that was what was described before the video was shown later that year on a local Video show (The New Music, on Ch.57 in Toronto)). >for their own records. Really-From: trudel@topaz.rutgers.edu (Jonathan D.) For those of you who don't know, Excellent Birds was first performed January 1, 1984 on the PBS tv show Good Morning, Mr. Orwell. The program was a collection of skits serving as a salute to George Orwell that was not all that wonderful, although it was watchable. Excellent Birds was a video assembled for the show. Peter Gabriel and Laurie Anderson were sitting through most of the song, and they did some interesting video trickery that I can't exactly remember. I was wondering when they'd put it on tape, record or cd. I'm glad that they finally did.
