Yep. Another of the "new, American, Orthodox garage megastar jangle" Golden
Palominos albums hits the racks, with that high, lonesome country sound all
over it. They cover 2 Lowell George/Little Feat tunes, an old Holsapple
chestnut (Diamond), T-Bone Burnette plays a little guitar and sings a song.
Sneaky Pete Kleinow is there. African talking drum and steel guitar sharing
the same track. Anton Fier and Peter Plegvad write about half the material.
Blegvad sings (it has a whiff of the Collins/Gabriel adenoid about it, even.
Peter B. sure sounds great, thoug). Jack Bruce sings a tune that doesn't lean
into the fan blades like "Silver Bullet" on the last GP, but hey. And guitars?
You got 'em. Carla Bley and Bernie Funkadelic Worrel on that churning Hammond
only when absolutely necessary. Now that Billy Laswell's gone gaga on Japan
they've started crediting lots of Japanese pals and the infamouns INKSTICK
people (I useta read about them in TRA-the Japanese cassette only gift from
abroad) now. Domo arigato gozaimasu. Someone named Robert Kidney sings a tune
which has Rotten all over it. He is a fine singer. Who is he. In short: proof
once again (as if we needed it) that the Material/Soho folks can slum the hits
with the best of them. They're wearing plum mousse *and* sterling silver collar
tips.
