[mod.music.gaffa] new hounds

After about 2 years of trying to get onto the KB fan "mailing list",
I finally hooked up to netnews and discovered mod.music.gaffa. Whatta treat!

So, 1st question: does anybody have a catalog no. for The Single File?

2nd question: does anyone else out there think as I do that she peaked on
The Dreaming and that (the videos of) her old stage shows were embarrassing?

The video tape or the boxed set of singles? The boxed set of singles
is now out of print, I am told.

Well, since *The Dreaming* is the greatest creation that exists or
ever will exist, this is to be expected.

No. She could get kind of silly every now and then, but what do you
expect from a 20 year-old girl? Everything in the shows is inspired,
if not perfect, and overall I think that they are completely
wonderful. I can't imagine a better concert. The amount of effort
Kate put into those concerts is just incredible.

Well, Mark, I must admit that I agree with Doug in that I also believe that
'The Dreaming' is a marvel to listen to and truly a modern masterpiece.
To say that Kate peaked on this album I think does her dicredit as 'The
Dreaming' is hard to beat. I think Kate still has incredible potential and
her best may be yet to come. However, even if *I* think 'Hounds of Love'
is second to 'The Dreaming' (albeit a CLOSE second), a second-best from Kate
still shines brighter over the best from most other artists!

Concerning the videos, I've had the Hammersmith (sp?) show for some time and
recently came into the possession of 'The Single' file and confess that I
find them a pleasure to watch if for no other reason than my infatuation for
Kate. Beyond that, though, I really, honestly do find her dance interpret-
ations interesting to watch. The video for "The Dreaming" really fascinates
me, as do many of the others. Personally, I find her videos refreshing after
ODing on overblown, over-produced (uh oh, there's that word again!) eMpTyV
videos. I really think that you must watch Kate's a few times to really
appreciate them.

I was hoping for the singles... what a shame. I saw them in Tower Records
one day last year, I thought "I'll have to come back for this!" and the
next thing I knew no one at the store had even heard of them. I'd gladly
pay someone for a casette copy!

OK.... fine.... just checking....

But really, the more I listen to HOL, the more interesting it gets.
Especially having gotten hints from .gaffa and from various reviews about
what some of them relate to. It just doesn't quite have the kick inside,
the whiplash mise-en-scene of the all-holy Dreaming. Maybe her adolescent
_weltschmertz_ is burning off?

That's just the thing. Her music shows such relative maturity even, say,
in the '79 of the Odeon concert. But the staging was SO self-indulgent...
kind of like a 6th grader's R&R fantasy of the school play. I could see
the effort that went into it, but it just made me blush. Maybe the later
video is different... I haven't seen it.

There are a few other KB devotees here at SGI. If you're listening, hi, boys!
