[mod.music.gaffa] Single File boxed set

Love-Hounds-request@EDDIE.MIT.EDU (01/22/87)

Really-From: NESCC%NERVM.BITNET@WISCVM.WISC.EDU (Scott C Crumpton)

This is my first posting to Love-Hounds. I've been waiting until I had
somthing worth saying.

Last night I was in one of the local nothing-special record stores and
what do I see but a copy of the Single File boxed set. Well, a swipe
over the plastic and it was mine. Upon arriving home I proceeded to
compare the Single File disks to those that I already had. This is
probably old news to most of you, even I knew there were differences.
(I have not played the disks yet, this is only visual.) Unfortunatly,
the copy I got is not one of the numbered edition. The results of my
efforts follow.

There Goes A Tenner:
Cover: Nearly identical. EMI logo on the SF copy slightly fainter.
Record: Both have "RAYS" hand written in the side A inner margin.
The last digit of the EMI number on the side B inner margin
appears to be a hand written "KT" on the SF copy.

The Dreaming:
Cover: SF copy slightly lighter, but darker printing.
Record: On both sides the SF copy's label is lighter and the
copyright mumbo-jumbo runs counter-clockwise, as opposed to
            clockwise on the non-SF version.
The non-SF version has "For Rolf" hand written on the inner margin
            of side A.

On Stage: (I have only a japanese import 12" of this so I can only describe.)
Cover: A Mini Gate Fold. Inside is similar to the japanese insert.
Record: Side B has what appears to be an "X" and a "C" hand written in the
            inner margin. Significance unknown.

The Man with the Child In His Eyes: (Again, nothing to compare to.)
    Cover: ?
    Record: No distingushing marks.

Hammer Horror: (Again, my only copy.)
    Cover: ?
    Record: Nothing special.

Wuthering Heights:
Cover: Same picture but otherwise totally different from the German
            pressing that I have.
    Record: No distingushing marks.

Sat In Your Lap:
Cover: SF version is lightly darker.
Record: SF copy has a knock-out center and the label is printed in a
            brighter green.
"Well Done J.B. 1st Dan" and "Thank You Donovan" hand written
on inner margins of side A and B on the non-SF version.

Ne T'enfuis Pas: (my single is a French release.)
Cover: Backs are obviously different. Notably the EMI logo (EMI covering
half of a record on the French release.)
Record: SF copy has a knock-out hole with standard paper label.
French version has a large hole and the label is printed directly
on the disk in silver paint.
There are no other distingushing marks.

December Will Be Magic Again:
    Cover: Identical.
Record: Non-SF copy has "Happy Christmas" and 2 squares hand written
on the inner margin of side A.

Breathing: (my single is a french release)
Cover: Same comments as Ne T'enfuis Pas.
Record: "WE ALL SHARE THE SAME AIR" hand written on side B of SF copy.
Same label description as Ne T'enfuis Pas.

WOW: (only copy again)
    Cover: ?
    Record: No distinguishing marks.

Army Dreamers:
Cover: SF copy has more of a yellow color, on the non-SF copy
the greys look like army grey.
Record: Same color differences as the cover.
Non-SF copy has "LIFE IS TO LOVE" hand written on inner margin
            of side A.

Babooshka:
Cover: The colors are much better on the SF version than my other copy.
Record: Virtually identical. The only obvious difference being the
colors. On the non-SF copy the orange is almost brown.
