Really-From: clancy@nusc-wpn Dear IED: As an interested observer to the "four qualities" debate, allow me to express my appreciation for the amusement provided by the increasingly vitriolic charges and counter charges that were prompted by your gauntlet of words. However......... In the interest of allowing a dead horse to get some respite I have a proposal that will certainly go a long way towards satisfying many people's curiosity, (mine included), and may convince us that IED is not merely a "deckstacking", "arrogant", "quasi- intellectual" "three letter dweeb". Some time in the near future, ( a month after the end of album submissions should do fine ), provide L-Hs with a decision process ,using quantifiable characteristics, that will result in an OBJECTIVE DECISION about an album's rating in the four various areas. It should be possible for an ignorant sheep herder from Lake Titica who uses this decision process to come up with the same results as IED or JROSSI would. (who presumably would also have identical results) I for one would love to have such an algorithm at my fingertips to help me identify which new albums and groups are worth plunking down my money for. Imagine : Album A has a rating of 0.3 dB (with respect to 'The Dreaming') BUY IT !!!! Album B has a rating of -6.2 dB (re. TD) WELLLLL Album C has a rating of -103 dB (re. TD) melt it down for its constituent elements Sincerely, Clancy ------
