Well, I really hate to post this, 'cause I know the general sentiment on the net, but, afterall, I should feel free to have my say... A friend recently lent me a copy of Steven Brust's "Jhereg." (Excuse the spelling, I don't have a copy with me.) And, after hearing all of the review on the net, I thought I'd give it a try.... ...um, I'm sorry Steven, and all you Jhereg lovers out there, but it was a little difficult to take. I can do very well, thank you, without the glorification of vigilantism and the Clint Eastwood dialogue. ("..I told him what he could do with his xxx" --- fill in the xxx with your favorite noun.) The concept of "revivification" being introduced did not make the hero being a hired gun who likes his work (and sent that message across quite clearly) any less palliatable. Also, the start/stop writing style was very disturbing. No offense to the author, but Jhereg is not everyone's style.... -- --- Rob DeMillo Madison Academic Computer Center ...seismo!uwvax!uwmacc!demillo / =|-- = \ = [][][] "...I don't know what this thing does, but it's pointing in your direction."
