led to this when you realize that
many hundreds of people have read the same comment you did, and you want
to `correct' the matter before they get the wrong ideas (in your opinion).

Killer Robots:

I would hesitate to arm robots with deadly weapons, especially when
they can act independently. I suggest using non-lethal weapons like tear
gas, rubber bullets or the Tazer(sp?) electric shock gun.

[I wouldn't want a robot with a submachine gun loaded with rubber bullets
after me - it wouldn't be much different in the long run than having
'real' bullets. There are some interesting projects going on in the DoD
(the ? joint armed forces technological weaponry project ? including a
self-guided Tank, and such) that are relevent to this issue... --Dave]

Mind Rape:

I'm sure there have been cases of fraudulent identities in the
US Mail, personals in newspapers, personal conversations, etc for a long
time without the aid of computers. Is this just the tendency of some
people to consider anything coming out of a computer the `truth' that
makes it such a shock?

[see other comments by people on computer `Omniscience'...-- Dave]

Flaming:

I have seen cases of flaming in some of my associates. I try to
avoid this behavior myself. Consider this theory: you read an article
that you want to respond to immediately, but you are forced to reply by
follow-up posting or mail. This robs you of the satisfaction of arguing
with someone personally, so you have a tendency to overstate your case
in the written word. You are also led to this when you realize that
many hundreds of people have read the same comment you did, and you want
to `correct' the matter before they get the wrong ideas (in your opinion).
