[I couldn't resist posting this - but I DON'T want to start a flurry
of other examples. We've all seen dumb spelling mistakes in published
works. This is just such an amusing anecdote... -- Dave]

Hey, I just noticed something that might make a good anecdote
for those who complain about the poor quality of writing that
that comes from people who rely blindly on such things as the
proliferating spelling checkers.

The yellow pages of the Boston area phone book has an entry
for "mulch", with only a couple of companies. One of them
supplies the usual sort of shredded bark mulch, and advertises
it as being for, among other things, "bridal paths".

I get this romantic image of a couple strolling away from
the church along a two-person-wide path through the woods,
which has been covered to a depth of about an inch with
freshly-shredded pine bark. Eventually they walk up to
a small cabin in a clearing, he carries her across the
threshold, and as he closes the door, the scene fades
and the music swells....
