[mod.amiga] Welcome to mod.amiga

Bob Page <page@ulowell.UUCP> (05/24/86)

Hello, and welcome to mod.amiga. I am the moderator of the group.
By day I am the Systems Manager in the Computer Science Department
at the University of Lowell, Lowell MA USA. By night I am an Amiga
addict ... you know the rest.

The purpose of mod.amiga -- and my purpose as moderator -- is not to
censor or squelch speech; it is to provide the readers with quality
discussion on all things related to the Amiga. The existing group
net.micro.amiga is by no means going away, but it is my hope that
mod.amiga will become a resource for information and user support
above and beyond what the unmoderated newsgroup provides today.

Many people have a hard time reading news due to its volume, and
the current Amiga group is no exception. I hope that mod.amiga
can provide the high-level Amiga user with the cream of the crop,
to allow them to get information quickly and accurately. It is
my secret desire to have readers feel net.micro.amiga unnecessary.

To that end, and to get mod.amiga off to a start, from time to time
I will be selecting some of the most useful information from the
unmoderated newsgroup and reposting it here. It will not be a lot
of material; that would defeat the purpose of mod.amiga. Rather,
it will serve as a jumping off point for further discussions.

To submit original material to mod.amiga, send your submissions to:
	mod-amiga@ulowell.UUCP
and any comments about the group to:
	mod-amiga-request@ulowell.UUCP

In UUCP syntax,
	...decvax!wanginst!ulowell
may be the preferred route to ulowell; your path may vary depending
on your site. Consult the latest Usenet map for more information.

Netnews 2.10.2 and 2.10.3 software allows you to simply post to
mod.amiga, and it will be forwarded to the above address. The
last moderators list did not include the address, so you may have
to wait a month unless your news administrator fixes it by hand.

Two other moderated Amiga groups exist -- mod.amiga.sources and
mod.amiga.binaries -- and are moderated by Craig Norborg at Purdue:
	{purdue, pur-ee} !pucc-i!aic
is where all programs should go.

For more information on moderated groups, please see recent articles
in mod.newslists and net.announce.newusers.
