[mod.computers.masscomp] Real digitizing rate

amen@quequeg.UUCP (08/20/86)

I have some friends that are considering buying Masscomps
for data acquisition but they need some information on realizable
digitizing rates. They are also considering Micro-Vaxen but are not
happy with the reliability and support they are currently receiving
from DEC. They do know that u-Vaxen can run at the high digitizing
rates they require (they are measuring free and wall bounded turbulence
in air) but are not sure the Masscomp DACP and AD12F can really go as
fast as Masscomp claims. We don't even own an ADC as all our digitizing
is done in our remote packages...and we don't require high rates anyway.
Things happen much slower in the ocean :-)

Does anybody have experince with 1-2 MHz (higher?) digitization?
If so, how long can that rate be sustained and under what conditions?
Also, what is your hardware configuration (5500?, 5600?, disks, DACP model,
ADC model, etc)? Please e-mail responses to me at the address below.
Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

	Thanks in advance,

	Bob Amen
