When I used Masscomp's for the last time (about a year ago) I remember a 'c' option to restor(8). This flag was used right after one had made a dump to verify the validity of the dump. This is what the manual page says: c The tape is read and compared with the file system specified in filesystem. If this command is chosen, the filesystem argument is required. Any I/O errors or checksum errors are listed, as well as any differences between the dump tape and the file system are listed; the latter include. I attempted to find the origin of this option, and came to the conclusion that it is a Masscomp specific addition. I checked first on our BSD 4.3 VAXen, backtracked to 4.2 and came up empty. I expected that though, BSD 4.[23] use the restorE spelling. I checked in our BSD 4.1 sources (which had the 'restor' spelling) and once again came up empty. I then checked sources on a Pyramid (a dual universe environment) in ATT-land and also came up empty. Unless it's a SYS III or VERS 7 option, I'm stumped. But I have no access to SYS III or VERS & machines or manuals. Can anyone out there in Masscomp land verify this and send me the sources ? I want to port it over to the BSD fast file system and use it on our VAXen. Feel free to contact me via electronic mail if you don't have convienent network access to send the source. I will be glad to call you or send a tape. Thanks much Tim Ehrhart Systems Programmer, SRI International
