Actually, the song was done by CSN first.  I'm pretty sure that it's
off the album "CSN" (my copy of which has conveniently misplaced itself,
but it's not on any of their others).  Checking "Crown of Creation", the
song is listed as written by David Crosby.

This song, which mentions "water brothers," appears on the Jefferson
Airplane album "Crown of Creation" and also on the Crosby, Stills, Nash
and Young album "Four-Way Street."  The song was co-written by Paul Kantner
of the Airplane and David Crosby of CSN&Y.  The reference to Heinlein's
Stranger in a Strange Land is very clear.  SiaSL was extremely popular at
the time that "Triad" was written.
