Here is the T.M.L. Pascal procedure I've written to tell if a given mouseDown eventrecord is actually the first click of a double click. There are a couple of tricky points: 1.) The user gets to set the DoubleClick time threshold from the control panel. It is up to us to respect it. 2.) You must arrange to return as soon as you know that a given eventRecord is NOT the first click of a double click - if you always wait for the doubleClick time to expire, the application will seem sluggish. 3.) You have to allow for the mouse to move a little while the user is doubleClicking (but not too much.) Moran (313) 824-7992 MacHack86%umich-mts@MIT-MULTICS.ARPA MacHack '86 -- Apple Macintosh Developers' Conference Apple Macintosh computer software specialists and suppliers will meet in Ann Arbor, Michigan April 6-9 for MacHack '86, a conference focusing exclusively on programming development for Apple's popular Macintosh microcomputer. Interest in the Macintosh is greater than ever since Apple Computer, Inc. made headlines recently by introducing the new, more powerful Macintosh MacPlus. The University of Michigan is breaking new ground as the sponsor of MacHack-86 and over 100 Macintosh software developers, especially those from university environments, are expected to attend in order to learn, share their knowledge, and to view the latest software development products for their computers. Sponsored by U-M's Computing Center, Computer Aided Engineering Network, and Center for Research on Learning and Teaching, the conference will take place primarily in the Chrysler Center on U-M's North Campus. Conference sessions will run from 9am-4:30pm Monday and Tuesday, and from 9am-noon Wednesday. The sessions will consist of advanced tutorials, case studies, and panel discussions. The advanced tutorials will allow programmers to receive in-depth information on new developments in Macintosh technology such as networking and printing, and also on forthcoming programming products. The case studies will feature descriptions by developers of their programming successes and failures and the factors contributing to each. The panel discussions will focus on current and future products which assist in writing programs for the Macintosh. Through these panel discussions, devolopers will have a chance to compare similar products from different vendors and evaluate the relative merits and shortcomings of their development tools. Major software vendors are expected to display their wares in a reserved area of the North Campus Commons. Product displays will run throughout the conference and will be open to the public from 9am-4:30pm Tuesday, April 8. For further information or to make reservations contact Aimee M. Moran, Conference Coordinator, at (313) 824-7992 or contact the Computer Aided Engineering Network (CAEN) at U-M (313) 763-3266. ------------------------------ Date: Mon 10 Mar 86 11:43:14-PST From: Irvin Lustig <OR.LUSTIG@SU-SIERRA.ARPA> Subject: ResEdit 1.0D5 problem I just uploaded ResEdit 1.0D5 from INFO-MAC and have had the following problem with it working on a Mac 512K, Old Roms, and HD 20: When I open an existing file that is not in the root directory or the system folder, the resources do not appear. ResEdit creates an empty file with the same name in the root directory. I know that the file has resources, because if I move it to the root directory, ResEdit 1.0D5 will edit it fine. ResEdit 0.8 edits the file no matter which folder it is in, and I continue to use it, since version 1.0D5 has this disturbing problem. If it helps at all, ResEdit 1.0D5 is not in the root directory. Has anyone else had this problem? Someone on net.micro.mac mentioned this, but I can't post anything to that net. People have said 1.0D5 is HFS compatible, but considering the nature of this problem, I would say that version 0.8 is HFS compatible and that 1.0D5 is NOT. -Irv Lustig OR.LUSTIG@SU-SIERRA "If only all software was upwards compatible......." ------------------------------ Date: 10 Mar 86 20:54:07 est From: Martin David Connor <mdc@MIT-HTVAX.ARPA> Subject: RS-232 Pinouts for the Mac+ DIN-8 Connectors? A few questions about the new MAC+ DIN-8 serial port connectors: - Is it the same socket that we find on the backside of the Radio-Shack Model-100? (I just disassembled and desoldered a Model-100 DIN-8 connector, so I hope so...) - Does anyone have (or is willing to get out the VOM and find out) the pinouts for a serial cable? I would be happy to get pinouts for DIN-8 to DB-9 (the current Mac serial port connector) or DIN-8 to DB-25 (Imagewriter-I cable) Since it will be a little while until my Mac+ arrives, I'd like to be ready to use my antiquated dial-it-yourself modem and plug right into my local Vax and 3640. Notes: My (hopefully compatible) DIN-8 connector seems to be numbered like this: 2 4 5 1 6 3 7 8 Thanks for any help or suggestions. ------------------------------ Date: Mon 10 Mar 86 00:58:56-EST From: Wang Zeep <G.ZEEP%DEEP-THOUGHT@EDDIE.MIT.EDU> Subject: Beck-Tech Color Mac This last week's "Computer Chronicles" on PBS mentioned in passing that Beck-Tech would have a internal color board for the Macintosh. I got the impression this would not be a colorizing board like their current product, but a real color video interface for the Mac. A great rumor, I thought, and since I know that Beck has been into video and computers for a bunch of years and does a pretty good >512K upgrade board, it could even be true. ------------------------------ Date: Mon 10 Mar 1986 11:17:54 EST From: <FDA@LL.ARPA> Subject: MS Word merge to disk file MS Word has a feature which allows one to merge the main document with a datafile and send the combined document to the printer. I would like to do the merge but redirect the output to a diskfile of type WORD. Any suggestions on how this could be accomplished would be appreciated. I am interested in Hebrew wordprocessing on the Macintosh. I have been able to get a hebrew font but there is no way that I can write from right to left instead of the English left to right. If you can send me any information on a system patch or a program that can help it would greatly be appreciated. I also would like to be put on the mailing list for any other type of new concerning the Mac. Thank You Edan A. Saltz ------------------------------ End of INFO-MAC Digest **********************
