The new chooser allows one to enter a User Name for the local node. How does a program running on that node find out that name? Most of the AppleTalk routines for obtaining information about the local node deal with node numbers, not names, and the name lookup routines don't work for the local node. ------

The Chooser's user name is stored in a private STR resource (the ID thus depends on the Chooser's DRVR number). I think it is indended for use with the new LaserWriter driver, which allows a sheet to be printed out for each job giving the owner's user name, document title, etc. I'm still hoping Apple will think of an official way to assign names to nodes (perhaps this is it, although it seems like a strange way to do it)... - Walt Walter Smith, CS undergraduate, Carnegie-Mellon University uucp: ...!seismo!cmu-cs-k!wrs arpa: wrs@wb1.cs.cmu.edu usps: 5139 Forbes Ave.; Pittsburgh, PA 15213
