I was finishing a terminal session with Smartcom II for the Macintosh the other day, and just on a whim I pressd the Interrupt button (the back one). I got the familiar system error bomb box, with the usual ID=13. This time, however, the "Resume" button was highlighted. I clicked in the "Resume" button, and instead of some dialog or an exit to the finder, I got to see the most astounding visual effects thati've ever seen. Apparently, the program took segments of the screen as it appeared (including the mouse cursor, bomb box, and any other parts of the screen) anddisplayed them in strange positions and orientations on the screen. Clicking/Holding the mouse button made everything bigger. I can't adequately describe this effect, but those of you who arre adventurous can try it. (When you click "Resume" the first thing Smartcom does is eject both disks, so you don't need to worry about losing your disks.) Other news: I talked to Tom Leonard of TML Systems. He said that they are releasing Version 1.1. Among the new features are: 1) Smart linker/Librarian (consulair compatible) -this should significantly reduce the size of your application. Sorry, no separate compilation YET. 2) Support for full sets of characters. That is, you can now declare a SET OF CHAR, and the line "IF <var> IN <charset>" is now valid. 3) More support for Macintosh Pascal. The MacPascal routines "StringOf" and "ReadString" are now supported. There are more features, but he didn't enumerate. (no pun intended) The upgrade to v1.1 is $20, and it sounds well worth it. I'll post when I get it or hear more news... --richard siegel -------
