HAMM@DHDEMBL5.BITNET (Greg Hamm) (03/20/86)
I am relatively new to the INFO-MAC list, i.e., I've been getting it since the new moderator started. One of the problems in reading the messages is that there are many conventions known to the old hands which remain mysterious to newcomers because the people using them never need to explain them. Without wanting to add to the worries of the moderator, could I suggest that there be, somewhere, a file lying around which explains the basic vocabulary (for example: what is an .HQX file?). If this could be edited (and perhaps even re-posted) every six months or so, it would allow any newcomer to get up to speed more quickly without boring the general audience with the same questions from everyone who joins the list. Maybe this already exists, in which case even *that* information might be repeated from time to time. While I'm at it, could someone post a briefly annotated list of decent MacIntosh periodicals/publications (including subscription addresses) to help me sort out what might be worth acquiring. Thanks, [NOTE FROM MODERATOR I think it's a great idea. Some basic information is contained in the info-mac file 00README, but there should be more files containing general information that many new readers would be interested in, but which have already been gone over many times in info-mac. I've started a file [SUMEX]<INFO-MAC>PUBLICATIONS.TXT, which contains a (short) list of mac publications. I would certainly be willing to add to that if someone mails the information to INFO-MAC-REQUEST@SUMEX --Bill END OF NOTE] Greg
