[net.micro.atari8] 'Happy' Version 7 software

Yesterday (June 2) I received in the mail the long awaited Version 7
software from HCI for the 1050 and 810 disk drives with the 'Happy'
hardware modification. This is free to all who send in their registration
card when the got the disk drive modified; you do not need to phone or
write to HCI. Included is a 22 page manual in small print.
(Curiously, it came in a B&C Computervisions envelope.)
This software, with the modified disk drive, provides disk I/O at
several times normal speed on normal (unprotected) diskettes
through use a track buffer in the drive, and reprogramming the computers
POKEY serial chip to run the line at a much higher rate.
Writes are verified without loss of speed. With the 1050, you also gain
true double density. This works with the sector copy and DOS.
Versions of OSS DOS XL and Top DOS with this high speed are also for sale.
Version 7.0 software is said to enhance the drive's already famous
ability to copy diskettes whose makers did not intend them to be copiable.
This is possible because the drive mod gives it its own RAM and the software
can program the drive itself to do unusual formatting and writing.
