[net.music] best lyrics, again

ark@rabbit.UUCP (Andrew Koenig) (10/25/84)

This is my third request for GOOD song lyrics. So many people seem
interested in BAD lyrics that I am tired of this relentless quest
for the ultimate in mediocrity.

I do not claim that these are the best song lyrics I have heard,
just that they sent physical chills up and down my back the
first time I heard them:

	"The drone of flying engines
Is a song so wild and blue,
	It scrambles time and seasons
if it gets through to you."

I have to nominate the lyrics to The Cars' "Drive" as the best lyrics
to appear in recent times.

"Who's gonna drive you home tonight?"

I agree with you about being tired of the worst lyric discussion. One of my
favorite set of lyrics comes from a Phil Collins song, 'I Don't Care Anymore'.
I can't remember the lyrics off hand but the song is inspired (see MTV video).
Pink Floyd has some very interesting lyrics on "Dark Side of the Moon".

All in all I hope this discussion continues in the positive vein in which it
was started.
