I just picked up the new ROMs for the 520 and installed them in my upgraded ST. I upgraded to 1 megabyte back in November '85 and didn't put any resistors in (at the time, they weren't mentioned in the upgrade instruc- tions). A while ago, someone posted a message saying that when they did this, they fried their ST. From looking at the schematics, I saw no reason for this unless the upgrade was not properly wired. So, I said what the heck and turned the thing on. It has been running for a few days now with no problems. I question the necessity of cutting traces in ones ST and installing the resistors. Admittedly, my knowledge of digital electronics is not that extensive, but I can't see how any harm could result from not using the resistors. I would suggest upgrading ones ST without installing the resistors. Only after doing this and finding that the upgrade doesn't work should you need to install the resistors. In any event, I don't see how any harm could result to your machine by not installing the resistors (but I don't guarantee it won't). Maybe Atari will comment on this? -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Eli Liang --- University of Maryland Computer Vision Lab, (301) 454-4526 ARPA: eli@cvl, eli@lemuria, eli@asgard, eli@mit-mc, eli@mit-prep CSNET: eli@cvl UUCP: {seismo,allegra,brl-bmd}!umcp-cs!cvl!eli
