I have just bought a copy of a magazine from the U.K. called Personal Computer World with an article on the 1040ST. This article is very positive on the ST family with only one 'sour' note: " After conversations with users and dealers of the 502 ST, its appears that there is some doubt as to the reliability of the system. One dealer reported 18 of his 30 Systems being returned to Atari and, of the users I know, everyone has experienced at least one hardware fault. The system in the office of Personal Computer World has gone through one mouse and one monitor in about four months, and the 1040's disk drive is rather temperamental." I would appreciate comments on the above statement as I have ordered my ST1040 now and I am now considering cancelling this order if the above is TRUE. Thanks for any information Peter Verbruggen Rank Xerox ,Venray p.s. the 1040ST cost $1543 overhere !!!

<> I've had my 520ST for about 5 months now without a bit of trouble. I've done the upgrade (complete with resistors), and installed ROMS's without incident. I leave everything but the monitor on 24 hours a day. I'm not sure if that's supposed to be good or bad for it. Anyone know? The only precautions I've taken with mine are to use a filtered-to-death ISOBAR power supply, and to crate up the beast in it's original boxes if I take it anywhere. All in all, I'm quite impressed by the reliability. -- Mike Hojnowski UUCP: ..rochester!moscom!jgpvax!mqh CSNET: "moscom!jgpvax!mqh"@ritcv
