[net.micro.atari16] Reply to "VT100 emulation and Yale ASCII".

Hello,
In reply to Moews, let me clear up a little here. Every terminal
talks to other computer/mainframes/terminals in ASCII. If not, you
would not be able to to them. Then some nifty programmer came up
with the idea of EMULATIONS. A certain sequence of control or escape
characters that allow the host machine to send to the terminal so
it can tell it to clearscreen/home/position-curson and other such
nifty things. Well, since there are so many programmers out there,
and computer companies. Everyone sort of came up with their own
emulation. VT100 follows ANSI emulation which is Digital's favorite.
IBM has their own too. But it seems that your mainframe, to be nice,
offers several emulations, VT100 being one of them. So, the answer
is yes. Your ST equiped with a decent VT100 emulator should be able
to do the job more than fine. The other emulation is not as popular
so you will have a hard time finding it, I would be most glad that
VT100 came out so soon for the ST, other machines wait years. But,
it should work fine.
                                     Terminaly yours,
                                     Rick Flashman
