========================================================================= In the Toronto area, we get mixed reports on the reliability of the double sided floppy drive (the one in the 1040). One specific complaint is that a disk written on one drive may well not be readable on another drive. A suggestion was made thatthe heat from the internal power supply on the 1040 might be causing dimensional changes in the drives. Any comments from netland? Peter Hiscocks Ryerson Polytech Toronto

Organization: U of KY Mathematical Sciences Keywords: {} My 1040 internal drive gives no problems with inter-readability to my other disk drives. However, the drive has a piece of metal that has lately been clanging like a bell whenever the drive is started. Also, on the subject of dimensional changes, my power supply is on the left and does not heat up the drive. However, it does heat up the plastic of the body of the 1040 (the cooling grill) to the extent that the plastic is sinking into the computer. So the top of my computer is no longer flat!!! Needless to say, I am not amused! Alan Kennington.
