[net.micro.atari16] Convert 1/2Mb to 1Mb disk drives??

walt@rclex.UUCP (Walter L. Weber) (05/23/86)

In the May 1986 issue of ST Applications (new magazine) there is
an advertisement for a company who is doing hardware upgrades of
SS drives to double sided. They advertisement reads
"Send your SF354 disk drive unit (No power supplies please)
with $120 plus shipping & handling to....."

The company is called "Komputer Korral" in Portales, NM.

Does anyone have any experience with this company, or with upgrading
their drives to double-sided?

(Please don't say "You should have thought about that BEFORE.....", since
that statement is reserved for parents taking children on long
 automobile trips! :-)

I don't know about the company, but this sounds like a reasonable deal.
You can upgrade the unit youself, by replacing the actual floppy drive
with an Epson SMD-180 drive. You would would have to pay around $100
for the drive, and it would only take a few minutes to switch the drive
and bezel.

The Korral could make a nice profit, since they can buy the drives at
wholesale prices, and resell the old single sided drive to a repair
shop. Now why didn't I think of that?
