[net.micro.atari16] disk drive in monitor

CON.REILLY@SU-GSB-HOW.ARPA (Brian Reilly) (05/25/86)

Hi - I saw a new monitor with a built in disk drive made by atari
for the 1040ST today. San Jose Computers had it at a swap meet. What
is the advantage of having the disk drive in the monitor? They also
had a double sided - 2 drive 520ST with color monitor for 899. That
seemed like a good deal.

The PS3000 is a color monitor with a built-in single sided floppy drive.
This product is available in very limited quantities and is being test
marketed in California only. The advantage of this is to reduce the ST
system's "footprint" -- the amount of desk space the system takes up.

Atari 520ST owners manual (page 8):

"Warning: when setting up your computer system, place your disk drive at
least 12 inches from your monitor. Monitors emit a magnetic field that
can damage information stored on disks."

Sure hope the combo unit has some magic magnetic shielding... :-)
