[net.micro.atari16] The 68ohm Resistor Debate - Round 2

med@druky.UUCP (DrapalME) (07/02/86)

I recently discovered a small piece of trivia regarding the 68ohm
resistor debate and the 1 meg upgrade of the 520ST. Recently, I
purchased a 520ST for a relative, and decided to do the upgrade to it
as well (I have an older 520ST and have already upgraded it). Imagine
my surprise when I opened up the new 520ST and discovered that the kind
folks at Atari had "hacked" in the 68ohm resistors into the existing
memory! And when I say "hacked", I mean that they cut traces and soldered
the resistors directly to the ram chips.

Now, I really don't know what this all means, except that Atari may
have concluded that the resistors are useful. I *don't* think that it means
that those of you that have un-modified 520's should open them up and put
them in, but I do think that this indicates that if you are considering
doing the upgrade, you should spend the extra $.59 and buy 6-68 ohm resistors.
