I just spoke to Mr. Rick Pommet of Nelson Data Communications about the use of the Avatex 1200 baud modem on the 520ST. He said that he and friends have the Avatex running on their own ST's with no problems; an RS-232-C cable is needed to connect the two. He quotes $85+shipping. How can you beat it? Mr. Pommet is sending me further information. If there is interest I'll post. Thanks to jhs@mitre-bedford for pointing the way. Jim Moore NCSC Panama City FL

I've tinkered with an Avatex 1200 at the store I work at, and the only difference I've found is that the auto-answer command is different. A friend of mine has been running one on an Apple (gasp! Heresy!) as the base of a bulletin board.. A board written for the Hayes 1200. The modem is mute, however; no onboard speaker, although there is a jack for another phone. Overall: Highly recommended. Price ranging from $90-$110, depending if mail order or not. -dg- ...!ihnp4!chinet!helm!dave ...!philabs!sbcs!helm!dave {the opinions expressed herein are mine, and mine alone.
