This is a series of detailed questions about connecting an Atari 520ST to a SONY monitor/receiver. Surely, someone must have done this by now and has some advice for the complete novice. We are trying to connect a 520ST with a 13 inch SONY monitor/receiver (model KV-1311CR). The 1311CR has facilities for both an analog RGB input and a digital (TTL) RGB input. The TTL is supposed to be directly compatible with the IBM pc. Are the monitor signal levels from the 520ST comparable to those from an IBM (i.e., TTL) or must the analog RGB connections be used? Most other postings that I have read about this has someone using a SONY XBR monitor/receiver with the 520ST. Unlike its bigger XBR siblings, the 1311CR has a single composite sync input rather than separate horizontal and vertical sync inputs. One method for joining the two sync signals into something that resembles a composite sync signal is to attach the horizontal directly to the sync input pin and use an 100 ohm resistor for tying the vertical sync to the horizontal line. Has anyone any experience with this method? Any better suggestions for adding the two sync signals from the Atari together? Finally, there are three pins on the analog RGB connection that control various modes (e.g., where to select the audio signal fro where to accept fast blanking). Are these pins "naturally high" (nothing illegal, just typical TTL levels) so that unless some grounding is provided, the high state (RGB mode) is selected? If you know anything about connecting a 520ST to a SONY monitor, please send some email with your comments. Thank you for your time.
