This message is the culmination of a number of expensive long distance phone calls between myself, TLM Systems and Microware: The Atari ST port for OS-9 68K has just passed Beta test. Microware is awaiting a copy of the documentation from TLM Systems and is expected to give written approval of the port forthwith. Distribution of the port to the public is now expected to begin around the beginning of August. Call TLM Systems if you are interested. The work on the Amiga port is progressing, but it looks like it will not be near completion very soon. More than that I can't say. I can say that I have a hard choice to make whether I'm going to buy an Amiga or an ST for myself. Unfortunately the Amiga price is not at all reasonable in the Toronto area. The going price is about $2,800.00 for 256K and Color Monitor. I feel that that's at least $500.00 over priced. I *will* be getting my own 68020 OS-9 system some time next month, however. It will be the brand new Frank Hogg QT-20X. This is a 68020 system on a motherboard which can be mounted into an IBM-PC case or a rack mounted case. It starts essentially with 2.5 Meg. and 4 serial ports. Options include memory protection, graphics and up to 14.5 Meg. expansion (yes, 14.5 Meg!) and 28 serial ports. I'll probably get a system worth about $5,000.00 to $6,000.00 US. I'm still deciding on the exact configuration. With OS-9, I'll have object code compatibility for many of my programs between the Atari ST or Amiga (whichever I buy) and the QT-20X. I think the Amigas in the Toronto area are overpriced by alot more than $500 (US or Canadian) considering Commodore has all but thrown in the towel on the Amiga and itself.
