[net.micro.atari16] megamax c - a gotcha for porting

i just found why my port of microemacs 3.7 was failing, it's in the
manual so i can't complain, in megamax c short is 1 byte; int 2
bytes; and long 4 bytes. Now megamax is my first experience with c
compilers on a micro, so the question is: is this standard ? i would
have expected short and int to be 2 bytes and liked short to be 2
bytes and long and int 4 bytes. any comments ?
