*** ccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmpppppppppp *** Hi. I'm posting this separate from my mail request to try and avoid confusion. I have paid for, and am waiting for my 1040ST (should be under a week, I'm staying awake at nights!). Congratulations all you out there who have one! I bought mine after 4 months of fairly intense research into the computer market and I think it's the best thing around (high praise from me, a picky SOB). So, I'm about to set up shop, and I have a few questions that maybe someone can help me with. Here goes: 1) I like the keyboard for the IBM AT better than the 1040's. Is there any way I can make a plug that allows an AT keyboard to be connected through a hole in the case, while still retaining the mouse/joystick ports? (I don't even know if the AT keyboard will work in any way w/ the Atari) 2) Can anyone give me any information about the vaguely rumored Microsoft word processor (Write?), like if it's a copy of Word, and when it will come out? 3) I saw earlier an article posted by a man who had rigged a box to change the color display to monochrone (I think this is what it was). How is this done, and is it intensely complicated? 4) Has anyone heard anything about 2, 3, or 4 meg upgrades for the 1040? I'm not sure if it is possible (room on board) but there are 1 meg chips out now. 5) Was the RAMdisk/hard drive problem ever solved? 6) (controversy time) Which is the best C? 7) Is there a mutlitasking, GEM-like (meaning mouse and windows) environment out there? Or will we have to wait for DRI's GEM? 8) If we must wait for the new GEM, how will we use it? Replacing ROMS, using it in memory (yech!), etc? 9) What is the Arpa public domain library and how do I access it? 10) Does anyone have the CP/M emulator out there? How fast is it? Does it emulate Kaypro (ADM-3a) video? Does it work for everything? Is it Z80 or 8080? and finally, 11) What games do people like out there (and why). To avoid much stuff on the net, please use E-mail to answer the last question. Thanks for any information you can give. Atari forever! John Ogawa UC San Diego ix181@sdcc6@sdcsvax
