From: Dave Platt <Dave-Platt%LADC@CISL-SERVICE-MULTICS.ARPA> In the July issue of Popular Photography, an item appears in the Video section which may be of interest to those people who were discussing the unavailability of RHPS videotapes compatible with the NTSC standard. Page 80, "Extras for Sight and Sound": "Instant Replay, a Design and Engineering award winner at a recent Consumer Electronics Show, may be just the thing if you would like to exchange tapes with your friends overseas. Installed in a Panasonic, Quasar, or G.E. videocassette recorder, it allows the unit to play PAL and SECAM tapes from overseas, in addition to our NTSC ones. The PAL tapes do show some color loss; SECAM plays in black-and-white only. A G.E. recorder with the installation is price at $795; a custom modification of your Panasonic or Quasar machine is $500." The address listed for this product is: Instant Replay 2951 South Bayshore Drive Miami, Florida 33133 I'd guess that you'd probably be able to re-record the output of an Instant-Replay-modified VCR on an NTSC (Beta or VHS) VCR, but I don't know that for certain. Disclaimers: I'm not associated with Instant Replay, haven't tried the product, don't own a VCR, have seen RHPS only once, and don't have strong feelings about the presence or lack of audience partic-i-pation.
