Over the period Thursday-Sunday, I received about 20000 lines of mail from
the info-atari16 mailing list, most of it uuencoded programs that I neither
needed nor wanted. I don't enjoy having to wade through all this junk,
especially when I have a program that automatically concatenates all of the
atari messages into one file. There is no way to differentiate between a
1500 line program and a regular message. It would be nice if one of the
following could be done:
a) A separate list for programs is created
b) we adopt some special Subject: line to differentiate programs
c) we stop postingg such long things over the net

I don't enjoy getting 9000 lines of proff or whatever and then hearing in
another message that the whole pile doesn't work, and I'm sure the people
who run the system here don't like having my reader jammed like this.

I agree with you about the heavy traffic. I've enjoyed getting all of
the great stuff about the Atari ST's but the GARBAGE is rediculous. I
never did count but I probably received over 150 - 200 messages weekly
just from this list. I don't have an ST but was(?) interested in
getting one. It seems to me that the actual expense of communicating
all of the encrypted code to my mail box alone is a price that I would
not want to pay and am sure that others feel the same way. So......

It's been nice but see you around. No more Atari mail for me; I've had
enough.

That is what the 'd' key in mail is for!
You don't HAVE to read your mail, just look at the subject line and say
No Thankyou.

In response to bammi%case.csnet@CSNET-RELAY.ARPA:

I don't live on a unix system; the size of my directory and reader are small
(I have a 2-cylinder disk for IBMers), so I am always in need of as much space
as possible for many things besides info-atari16. I didn't want to get into
an argument about this, but I thought I should just emphasize the fact that
the people on this list are on MANY different kinds of computers, not just
unixes and DEC-20's with +INF directories. There are also many different
mail reading programs around; did you notice that I said that there is a
program I have tha automatically takes all the info-atari16 files and puts
them into a pseudo-digest form for other people to read on my system?

Well, enough of this. I see someone has volunteered to moderate a
mod.atari16.sources (or whatever), which might just solve the whole problem.

I like it just the way it is, also living on an IBM system. I don't have the
time or patience to track down all sorts of different groups. Half of which
I don't receive on the 3B20 via USENET. This group via Arpanet insures I get
it all.
