I just bought the new album by Frankie Goes To Hollywood, a double album called "Welcome To The Pleasuredome", and I'm listening to it now for the first time. It's a very interesting album with a lot of variety in addition to their familiar dance style. The first side is one fifteen minute piece that proves that they're capable of doing 80's progressive rock. The second side is made up of the three songs that have appeared on their singles. "Relax" and "Two Tribes" are the 7-inch versions, but "War" is an extended version, with Ronald Reagan appearing in several places throughout the first half. Side 3 contains covers of "Ferry Across The Mersey" (yes, FGTH is from Liverpool), an excellent version of my favourite Bruce Springsteen song "Born To Run", and "Do You Know The Way To San Jose", which sounds a lot like the original. The rest of side 3 and all of side 4 is made up of shorter group compositions that show the group's versatility, mostly either upbeat rock/funk (with maybe a bit of a jazzy sound thrown in) or slower songs with a heavily orchestrated sound. In summary, don't expect 65 minutes of great dance songs like "Relax" and "Two Tribes", but if you're in the mood for a little bit of just about everything that's been going on in the 80's, this album could bring you a lot of pleasure. -- Jeff Richardson, DCIEM, Toronto (416) 635-2073 {linus,ihnp4,uw-beaver,floyd}!utcsrgv!dciem!jeff {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!dciem!jeff
