i quote the AT&T software announcement for C++ : "Given a running version of the C++ translator on a system mentioned above, it can be ported to a different type of system, if the target system has a C compiler that supports variable names of arbitrary length, and structure assignment." The systems "mentioned above" are AT&T Sys V,Release 2.0 on VAX and 3Bx computers. i don't know what system calls are used by the C++ translator itself, so i don't know what mods might be needed for it to run under BSD systems or v7-like systems (Alcyon C). The porting procedure is related in the "Release Notes", part of the C++ distribution. Educational (source) licensing is $250 per *request*, no limit on # of CPUs. Commercial (source) licensing is $2000 for the 1st CPU, $1000 for each additional CPU. Binary sublicensing is available for $2000 plus from $50 to $500 per copy sold. Note that Oasys (Cambridge, MA) also sells C++. Their phone # is (617) 491-4180. i don't know any particulars about their product, since i am still waiting for their info to arrive in the mail. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ U.S. Mail: Neville D.
