Computer Science and Psychology Student Positions Computer Graphics Lab University of Waterloo The Computer Graphics Laboratory is looking to hire two students, one in psychology, the other in computer science, for the Spring 1988 term. The students will be working on an experimental workstation designed to support psychophysical and visual-cognition experiments. This workstation, implemented on a multi-processor real time system running the Harmony operating system, has software support for controlling the running of experiments along with hardware support for monocular and binocular graphics, and a number of input devices. Experiments being considered for the Spring term include investigations into computer-human interaction techniques, the use of different colour-space models, various aspects of mental rotation, and combinations of these topics where interactions might be expected. The computer science student will be responsible for programming in support of the experiment-running system. This will include interfacing interactive devices to the system and extending the graphics support. A knowledge of C and Unix would be beneficial. The psychology student will act as an experimenter, implement the actual experiments on the system, monitor the data collection, and assist with data analysis. Familiarity with experimental methods is essential. Students interested in applying for these positions must meet the eligibility requirements of the NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award by having an ``A'' average, having completed second year by the Spring term, and by not having had three such awards previously. Such students should send a letter stating their interest along with their resumes electronically to pptanner@watcgl or in hard copy to Peter Tanner in the CS dept. BY DECEMBER 7. Interviews will be conducted during the week of the Dec. 7th. Any questions may be directed to Peter Tanner, MC6080, ext.4589.
