[net.lang.c++] How do I get a copy of c++?

How can I get a copy of the c++ compiler?  I am very interested
 in it. Is it net language?  Is it being created by a whole group
 of people on the net? Can I get the sources? Does it run on a 
 Sun?  What version? 2.0? 2.2? 3.0?
