[mod.os.os9] OS-9 Discussions - New Moderator!

os9@cbosgd.ATT.COM (08/18/86)

From: John Daleske (The Moderator) <os9-request@cbosgd.ATT.COM>

The OS-9 newsgroup mod.os.os9 has seen little activity for quite some time.
Until recently I was not able to take over the moderator tasks. Since no
one had stepped forward and I'm now able to participate my volunteering for
the position was readily accepted.

This is YOUR newsgroup. For the immediate future I anticipate directly
forwarding each submission as quickly as possible. I will push myself to
get less than one day turnaround. Quick turnaround will assist in responsive
discussion.

In the future, should the volume of discussion increase we will probably
need to move to a digest format.

As a starter I'd like to see some reviews of the very-soon-to-be-released
OS-9 68K for the Atari ST series. This port has the potential to move OS-9
more toward the main stream of attention. OS-9 has not received much press
in the main rags. Interestingly, OS-9 has a huge number of installations.
Many of these installations are dedicated such as in process controls. One
of the more well known recent developments has been in the CD-ROM players
as a dedicated controller.

Another topic of personal interest is comparing OS-9 to other systems,
especially UNIX. UNIX is well embedded in the community and has a place.
OS-9 is well embedded in a different community and has a place. Both have
strengths and weaknesses, some in common. I will be comparing various
aspects and writing my impressions. Let's see some activity here!

I will be scanning the magazines and other sources for news about OS-9.
Send along any news and "rumors".

"Now," said the butterfly, "look closer and tell me what you see."
"I see a tiny horse with wings upon its back" said Flutterby. "Why that's
me I see! But what am I?"
"You are you. Just as I am me!" said the wise old butterfly. "Nothing more,
 nothing less."

How about a summary of OS9 being posted to the group? As pointed out, the
media haven't paid much attention to it, and so it's rather hard to get any
information. I for one would like to know more.
