I'm getting regular system crashes (notably, since I upgraded to Ultrix 1.2). The players: uVAX II CPU with 1MB memory, 8MB EMC memory (recently replaced when damamged by a power hit), disk controller with 2 RD53 drives (swap on both drives), tk50 controller and cartridge drive, and dz11. Prior to my upgrade, the system was INCREDIBLY stable, crashing only when power went out, and running for WEEKS at a time without problems. But now, often, in the middle of doing just about anything (emacs, kermit, ls, more, rogue), with and without UUCP connections going as well, I get the following message on the system console: Restarting system software. dumping to device 901, offset 1576. dump successful Loading system software. 2..1..0.. Boot : ra(0,0)vmunix etc., etc. Nothing consistent, no other error messages, either on the system console, or in syslog (twice while just trying to create this message!). So, I had the maintenance people in today and they ran diagnostics on the CPU board for about half an hour, and replaced the power supply (as a guess). Fine, for about three hours... Anybody else have similar configurations with similar problems? Can anybody recommend anywhere (and how) to look in the saved vmcore and vmunix files for anything that might give a clue as to what is causing these problems? -- Karl -- DDN: nyberg@ada20.isi.edu INET: karl@grebyn.com uucp: {decuac, seismo}!grebyn!karl
