[mod.os.unix] Request for info on system analysis tools

jdoskow@tymix.UUCP (Jonathan Doskow) (01/19/87)

Does anyone have knowledge of system analysis tools that run under UNIX.
I am specifically interested in products that support leveled, balanced
data flow diagrams linked to a data dictionary.

If response warrants it, I will post a summary.

Yes I know, we (McDonnell Douglas) have such a product, but it is
limited to MS-DOS. In any case, my employer does not know that I
am doing this and so cannot be held responsible for opinions I
have not expressed.

Here's a summary of the responses I received on the system analysis tools
inquiry. Ron.

Try IDE (Interactive Development Environments). They have a very
inexpensive product that runs on various workstations, including
Sun 3.0 and VaxStation (Ultrix and VMS). They have lots of stuff
including hierarchical dataflow diagrams, data dictionary,
relational database, etc. You can get the whole shooting match
(called Software through Pictures) for (I think) $25,000.

They are located in the Bay area - they are a spinoff of Tony
Wasserman's work at UCSF. Oh yeah, the software includes a kind
of mini UIMS (User Interface Management System) that uses state
transistion diagrams. Lots of goodies and good support for a
cheap price. We have used the stuff extensively and it is quite
good, in our opinion.

Here is the IDE address:

Interactive Development Environments (IDE)

Good Luck!
