[mod.compilers] Michael Scott's comments on LL

johnl@ima.UUCP (12/11/86)

It has been a long time since I have this quality of knowledge about LL(1)
parsers. Most comments appear to be by people which have little knowledge
about LL(1) techniques or have bought the nonsense taught in many compiler
courses that LL(1) techniques are obsolete or that LL(1) is not applicable
to certain languages.

I am a compiler developer with 10 years experience and have experience with
both LL and LR techniques. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
I believe that the choice of technique should be made upon the quality
and availability of parser generators. After that it is just a matter of
personal taste.

[My opinions are my own and not necessarily those of my employeer.]
