nyways, thanksalot for your responses. As I said, "I don't want to clutter the net with songlists ..." - no objections, so here goes: 9-5-84 Colieum, Charlotte, NC 9-6-84 Coliseum, Richmond, VA ------------------------------ ------------------------------ Bertha Hell In a Bucket Promised Land Dire Wolf West LA Fadeaway Cassidy Red Rooster They Love Each Other Dupree's Diamond Blues Minglewood Blues Brother Esau Tennesse Jed Brown Eyed Women Looks Like Rain Feel Like a Stranger Don't Ease Me In Might as Well China Cat Scarlet Begonias I Know You Rider Fire on the Mountain Estimated Prophet Playin' in the Band Eyes of the World China Doll Drums - Space Drums - Space The Other One Throwing Stones Black Peter Goin' Down the Road Sugar Magnolia One More Saturday Night Johnny B. Goode (!!) Revolution First show opened real upbeat with a "Dance your ass off" Iko! The rest of the show had its moments. Brent sang "Wanna Make Love" ala Foghat. After that, the rest of the show faded into a quick, lifeless Useless Blues. The second night in Worcester was HOT!! Big Railroad was a highlight, the band and the crowd peaking during Jerry's long solo. Bobby's voice sounded pretty beat during Let it Grow, but Phil hit a very loud, low note halfway through, which picked up into a nice jam to end the set. Jack Straw was a nice second set surprise, then came the real surprise, Smokestack. This version was fairly short, but for the first time in years it had vocals, thanks Bobby. The second set ended with a real powerful Johnny B. Goode and, as most people expected on John Lennon's Birthday, a Revolution encore. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9-11-84 Civic Center, Augusta ME 9-12-84 Civic Center, Augusta ME -------------------------------- -------------------------------- Shakedown St. Feel Like a Stranger Greatest Story Must Have Been the Roses Peggy-O On the Road Again Mama Tried JackaRoe Big River All Over Now Ramble on Rose Cumberland Blues Looks Like Rain The Music Never Stopped Might As Well Hell in a Bucket Cold Rain and Snow Touch of Gray Lost Sailor Man Smart Saint of Circumstance Ship of Fools Don't Need Love Playin in the Band Uncle John's Band Drums - Space Drums - Space Mr. Fantasy Playin in the Band Black Peter (Reprise, end of last night's) Sugar Magnolia Uncle John's Band Morning Dew Dayjob Good Lovin' Songlist from the Byrne "Terrapin Flyer" handout, which picked the second night at Augusta as the best show on the tour due to the songlist and the relaxed atmosphere in Augusta. Unfortunately, the atmosphere wasn't so relaxed outside, as this Friday night show had sold out three weeks earlier, unbeknownst to most of the 1000 or so fans trying to get tickets that night; the unfortunate part is that the crowd charged the gate, resulting in a near riot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9-14-84 Hartford, CT 9-15-84 Hartford, CT -------------------- -------------------- Alabama Getaway Hell in a Bucket Greatest Story Ever Told Sugaree Dire Wolf El Paso Red Rooster Bird Song Dupree's CC Ryder Brother Esau Tennessee Jed Loser Jack Straw Minglewood Blues Day Job Row Jimmy I Need a Miracle Might as Well China Cat Scarlet Begonias I Know You Rider Fire on the Mountain Samson and Delilah Playin' in the Band - Jam High Time Drums - Space Estimated Prophet The Wheel Eyes of the World Wharf Rat Drums - Space Playin' (Reprise from night before) China Doll Sugar Magnolia Throwing Stones Not Fade Away It's All Over Now, Baby Blue Lovelight "Terrapin Flyer" songlist. Hartford's first night was the longest show in some time - a 7:30 show which ended at midnight. (For those unfamiliar with Dead shows, they start nearly on time, with no warmup band and a half-hour break between the two sets - just like Springsteen.) There was no encore due to a curfew(?); after Not Fade Away, only Jerry and Mickey stayed on stage and started Lovelight, then the rest of the band joined in. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9-17-84 Brendan Byrne, Rutherford, NJ 9-18-84 Brendan Byrne, Rutherford, NJ ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- Iko Iko Feel Like a Stranger Promised Land Candyman West LA Fadeaway Red Rooster Brother Esau Big Railroad Blues Brown Eyed Women Cassidy Minglewood Blues Althea Row Jimmy Hell in a Bucket Looks Like Rain Might As Well Help on the Way -> Dancin' in the Streets -> Slipknot -> Touch of Gray Franklin's Tower Playin' in the Band -> Man Smart Uncle John's Band -> Terrapin Station -> Playin' -> Drums Space -> China Doll -> Playin' -> The Other One -> Drums - Space -> Playin' Truckin' Throwing Stones -> Stella Blue Not Fade Away Goin' Down the Road Brokedown Palace It's All Over Now, Baby Blue Both shows were pretty energetic, good crowd and all. Sounds like they've been moving some songs around, notably Touch of Gray which fit in real nice after Dancin'. Drums on the second night was peculiar - only Mickey played, then he walked off stage and for a minute or two, the stage was empty. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9-20-84 Carrier Dome, Syracuse ------------------------------ I haven't heard the songlist from this show; second set opened with Shakedown, then it sounded a lot like the second night in Worcester - Jack Straw - He's Gone - Smokestack. The last song was another Lovelight, and the encore was Revolution. Otherwise, no surprises, and Bob Dylan did not open the show, as was rumored. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And that's the way it was, Grateful Dead East Coast tour, fall '84. Back to you, Jerry. "One man gathers what another man spills"
Carl Moore (VLD/VMB) <cmoore@BRL-VLD.ARPA> (11/02/84)
You have "as most people expected on John Lennon's Birthday (sic), a Revolution encore". But you give the (Grateful Dead) concert date as 9-9-84, and Lennon's birthday is OCTOBER 9.
