Since we are introducing ourselves, here's my strange history...

My educational background is that of an electrical engineer also having
degrees in chemistry. I have been in private industry for 15 years, and
presently manage a small, but prolific R&D organization which specializes in
interdisciplinary projects such as scientific instrument design, industrial and
chemical process control systems, transducer design and telemetry. Many of our
projects are highly proprietary in nature and have involvement with patents.
At this time I am inventor or co-inventor on 14 issued and pending patents in
various areas ranging from industrial data acquisition systems to transducer
design to spectroscopic indentification systems to a method for bar code
scanning.
I am a firm believer in the concept of patents, but not necessarily the
manner in which the US Patent Office works :-). So, one area of my interest is
that of patents and intellectual property law. While I have never had any
formal legal education, I sure as hell have learned a lot about practical law
``The Hard Way'' over the years...
I am also interested in issues involving product liability, computer
security, and forensic science. In the latter two areas, I have provided some
consulting services to local law enforcement agencies for a number of years (for
lack of their being able to afford anyone better...). In fact, my wife is a
former police officer whom I met while doing some work for her agency, so I
have also had a good exposure to the world of criminal law through her.
