I am on the search committee to find a new Manager of Computing
Services at Argonne. We expect to acquire an entry-level supercomputer
(in the Cray XMP-1 or Amdahl 1100 range, not a Crayette) in a few
months and particularly seek an individual who is knowledgeable in
large scale scientific and engineering computing. This type of
individual may be known to members of this bulletin board.

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Argonne National Laboratory is searching for a new Manager of
Computing Services.
Argonne National Laboratory is a leading Research and Development
organization with significant research programs requiring large-scale
and distributed computing. Argonne's Central Computing Facility serves
over 2,000 users, both on site and nation-wide.
The Computing Services Department is poised to implement several major
upgrades in equipment and capability, thus providing the energetic and
knowledgeable manger with ample opportunity to demonstrate his/her
skills.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in engineering
or scientific computing and have significant experience in managing a
full service computer facility. He/she must be familiar with
state-of-the-art and trends for large-scale scientific computing and
computer networking, and have proven management skills that will be
required to manage a staff of over one-hundred, predominantly
professional, employees and an annual budget of about nine million
dollars. Familiarity with telephone communications systems and
management information systems will also be assets.
The Manager of Computing Services will be expected to exert leadership
in anticipating and meeting the Laboratory multi-faceted computing and
communication needs. He/she will ensure that management information
systems are effective and responsive to both internal and external
reporting requirements.
