[ut.supercomputer] UNIX/Cray access: informational meeting to be scheduled

edwest@utgpu.UUCP (06/02/87)

<Preliminary announcement>

  The Centre for Large Scale Computation is pleased to announce that the Cray
Satellite Station software test is about to begin. This product provides UNIX
systems connected to the Cray's front end VAX via TCP/IP with capabilities
similar to those enjoyed by DECneted VMS systems. These include job
submission, job status reporting and dataset fetch and dispose. The use of
'ftp' and 'rlogin' to the attached VAX/VMS system will no longer be required.
Several UNIX sites have volunteered to participate in this test and more
would be welcome.

  In order to inform users about the Satellite software the CLSC invites all
potential users of the product as well as managers of each of the remote
systems which are or might run it to a meeting at which the product's
features will be discussed and, if possible, demonstrated. The intent of the
meeting is to promote the software and solicit comments about its features,
capabilities and maintanence.
