The appeal of lyrics is often affected by a person's (or group's) mood at the time. Take, for instance, Phil Ochs: Here's to the land you've torn out the heart of, Richard Nixon, find yourself another country to be part of Or, Country Joe and the Fish: One, Two, Three, what are we fighting for? Don't ask me, I don't give a damn, Next stop is Vietnam. And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates. Ain't no need to wonder why, Whoopie! We're all gonna die.
