I found it amusing that Brian Smith's talk on the Semantics of Clocks was posted without a time being mentioned! More seriously, it is an intriguing topic - I remember a seminar given by Gregory Bateson in 1974 in which the intial assignment was to say what a clock is ... [I believe the omission of the seminar time was my fault. The event had already taken place, though. -- KIL]
