POSITIONS IN LINGUISTICS AT CARNEGIE-MELLON UNIVERSITY

The Philosophy Department at Carnegie-Mellon University solicits
candidates for two full-time, tenure-track positions in its newly
established Program in Linguistics, to commence September 1, 1986. The
rank is open, but there is a preference for applicants at the Assistant
or Associate Professor level.

Successful applicants will be expected to teach undergraduate and
graduate courses in linguistics theory; to engage in interdisciplinary
research with colleagues in Computer Science, Cognitive Psychology,
Philosophy (including Logic), and Rhetoric; and to participate in the
activities of the Laboratory for Computational Linguistics. Candidates
should have backgrounds in computer science as well as linguistics.
Special consideration will be given to candidates who have demonstrated
competence in adapting linguistic theory to computational applications.

Applications should include a statement of research interest, curriculum
vitae, and the names of at least three people from whom letters of
recommendation have been requested. Candidates who do not already have
a Ph.D. must offer evidence that the degree will be granted by August
1986.

Send applications by December 1, 1985, to:
