POSITIONS IN LINGUISTICS AT CARNEGIE-MELLON UNIVERSITY The Philosophy Department at Carnegie-Mellon University solicits candidates for two full-time, tenure-track positions in its newly established Program in Linguistics, to commence September 1, 1986. The rank is open, but there is a preference for applicants at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Successful applicants will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in linguistics theory; to engage in interdisciplinary research with colleagues in Computer Science, Cognitive Psychology, Philosophy (including Logic), and Rhetoric; and to participate in the activities of the Laboratory for Computational Linguistics. Candidates should have backgrounds in computer science as well as linguistics. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have demonstrated competence in adapting linguistic theory to computational applications. Applications should include a statement of research interest, curriculum vitae, and the names of at least three people from whom letters of recommendation have been requested.
