A Chaired Professorship in Telecommunications Technology has been established
in the Department of Electrical Engineering. The person appointed to this
chair will also serve as Director of the AT&T Telecommunications Technology
Program.
The aim in filling this chair is to build on past and current strengths in
telecommunications at the University and to further develop a center in this
field for research, education and application which will be of world-wide
eminence.
The holder of the chair would have an appointment in the Moore School of
Electrical Engineering and, depending on background, secondarily in one or more
other departments in the natural sciences and technology, in a management unit
within the Wharton School and/or in the Annenberg School of Communications.
Each candidate should have superlative qualifications in scholarship and
teaching and be able to achieve a top leadership position in telecommunications
for the University of Pennsylvania. To do so will require the ability to work
closely with AT&T, other firms, foundations and government agencies.
