The Distributed Systems Group in the Computer Science Department of Stanford University seeks a full-time Systems Programmer II, III or IV to support its research in the area of parallel programming systems, with particular emphasis on compiler support. The initial project will involve extensive work on a code generator and linker. This research is supported in part by Digital Equipment Corporation. The programmer will be responsible for: further development and maintenance of a compiler for two experimental multiprocessor machines plus development and maintenance of a linker and program library management system. In addition, the programmer will be expected to develop various application tools in support of these facilities and assist in the general maintenance of V system software. The ideal candidate: * Holds a Masters or Bachelor degree in Computer Science or the equivalent plus coursework and possibly work experience with compilers. * Is a self-starter and is willing to work hard in a relatively unstructured environment to produce creative solutions and quality software for an experimental distributed system. * Attaches a premium to learning, accomplishing difficult goals and advancing his or her technical proficiency in a university research environment. In particular, the candidate should be interested in programming systems, compiler technology and parallelism. The programmer will have the opportunity to work closely with students, faculty, and staff of the Stanford Computer Science Department on these and other topics. Experience with C, UNIX, DEC VAX, SUN workstations and (of course) our own V distributed system are definite assets.
